cards

i decided that a change of pace may be just what i need to get those creative waves flowing. so, eldest and i hauled all the stamp stuff out to the front porch. i have a 8 foot table set up which is perfect for stamping. lots of room, everything laid out easily seen and we can enjoy the out of doors. at the last stamp class, this image was used. it's 'winds of grace' which i have since discovered is a retired su set. i loved the images and stamped two sheets of whisper white with sail boats and light houses (having no idea what i would do with them) so that i could create more cards. the image was inked with night of navy and stippled with the same.
after perusing the web, i found this design. the netting is made with needle and thread that is worked through the ten holes on side and bottom.
it took us most of the afternoon, but we ended up with three delightful cards.
we're at it again today, so hopefully our speed will increase with practice!

malaise

i have several projects on the needles... simple socks, patterned socks, sweater.... and others that are languishing in their baskets. i just can't seem to focus my energy to make any progress. every time i pick it (and it doesn't matter which 'it') i only seem to muster the ability to complete a few rows. hmmmm. at this rate, it will take me f o r e v e r to get them done!
then there is my fiber. not having done any spinning since the shepard's market, i was eager to get to the guild meeting this month. i debated each ball for color, fiber type, fun factor.... and took them all with me. never spun. not one turn of the wheel. i was too busy doing much of nothing to ever sit down.
so, yesterday i finished two bobbins of my very first longmeadow farms roving. i'm working this into singles so the spinning goes fast. the next challenge is choosing my tour de fleece project. 23 days of dedicated spinning.
i can not wait!!!

part of vacation included a trip to visit my sister. she had gifted my youngest with a trip to see the lion king on broadway. the gift included a ticket for a parent (dad was chosen) and lunch in the city. i got the biggest chuckle at my sister's concern that i would be at loose ends during the show. hmmmm. after all the years she's known me ( and they have been many) the thought that i would have trouble amusing myself in new york, well i'm still chuckling about that. so, i shopped, wandered about, did starbucks, and settled myself in the chaos of times square to.....
knit. love that traveling sock. i had a hoot watching all the craziness circling around me. it was fleet week so the area was teaming with young servicemen enjoying a warm sunny day in the big apple. sadly there were no yarn shops nearby, but i did find a bakery, coffee and street vendors so all was well. interestingly enough, i'm still working on that same sock!
